A group of concerned Muslim youth in Sogakope Zongo is taking action. They aim to address rising robbery and drug abuse in their community.
Led by Mr. Abdul-Rauph Saka, the group raided three local apartments. These apartments are suspected to be bases for criminal activities by some youths.
Mr. Saka said the recent robberies caused fear among local traders. “Some of our own Muslim brothers have been involved,” he stated. After investigations, they found stolen items like cement bags and paint buckets.
He emphasized that their actions aim to restore peace and security. They had prior approval from local police to shut down these hideouts.
Mr. Saka highlighted the importance of community-police collaboration. “We will do everything possible to make our Zongo safe,” he added.
Residents shared their frustrations about theft and drug-related violence. “We’re scared to sleep peacefully at night,” one resident said anonymously. “They steal anything they can sell after using drugs.”
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) noted that calm has returned to the Zongo community. Residents resumed daily activities while remaining vigilant.
However, GNA could not reach the District Police Command for comments.
