Congregants at the Gethsemane Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Achimota, particularly the youth from the Young People’s Guild (YPG), are protesting against illegal mining, or galamsey.
Dressed in red and holding placards, they voiced their concerns about the environmental destruction caused by galamsey.
The protest aligns with a broader national call by the YPG to raise awareness of the issue.
Rufus Attiso, President of the Gethsemane YPG, urged the government to take stronger action, warning that the country’s natural resources, especially its water bodies, are at risk if galamsey is not curbed soon.
