The government has awarded Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project to Amandi Holdings Ltd. This brings hope to Agavedzi, Salakope, and nearby coastal communities affected by tidal waves.
Volta Regional Minister James Gunu announced this on Facebook. He confirmed that Amandi is mobilising equipment and setting up a base at Azizadzi for construction. “I’m pleased to inform you that Phase II has officially been awarded to Amandi,” Mr. Gunu stated.
To support affected residents, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) is collaborating with Eximbank. They have provided temporary shelters for relocation to safer areas. Mr. Gunu also mentioned plans for a permanent resettlement project for those displaced by the tidal waves.
“We are working on a housing project as a permanent solution,” he added. James Gunu thanked President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to coastal protection. He noted that the Blekusu Sea Defence Project started during Mahama's administration.
The government will continue food supplies and medical support throughout construction. The news has brought joy to residents, who see this as a long-awaited solution. Local leaders are urging cooperation from residents for smooth implementation.
With construction underway, hopes are high for lasting protection and restored livelihoods in Ghana’s vulnerable coastal communities.
