Journalist and activist Nuong Faalong has defended the government's decision to investigate past corruption. She believes accountability is essential.
“The corruption in the previous administration was obscene,” she stated. “It is being revealed over time.”
Faalong rejected calls to ignore past financial misconduct. “You cannot just tell the government to move on,” she said. “First, you stop the bleeding, then find out what caused it.”
She acknowledged that no court has ruled on the allegations yet. However, she believes existing evidence supports further legal action.
“You cannot say there was no corruption just because it hasn't been proven in court,” she insisted. “The facts are out there.”
Faalong emphasized that the public deserves information about arrests and investigations. “The public requires information, and we are going to court,” she said. “You will see these things when we go to court.”
She recalled media coverage of former Deputy Finance Minister Ato Forson’s trial. She questioned why some oppose public disclosure now. “The Honorable Ato Forson trial was widely covered,” she remarked.
According to Faalong, the current Attorney General ensures fairness and due process. “We have an Attorney General who is learned and professional,” she said. “He follows the facts without creating trouble for anyone.”
She added that those accused of corruption should not fear scrutiny if innocent. “If you claim you are not guilty, the court will find out soon.”
