Council of State's move on Chief Justice Torkornoo a disservice to Ghana - Egyapa Mercer

Andrew Egyapa Mercer, a former NPP MP for Sekondi, criticized the Council of State. He disagreed with their support for the prima facie case against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

On Good Morning Ghana, he called this decision a "disservice to Ghana." Mercer also condemned supporters of Torkornoo's removal as hypocrites. They opposed the removal of former Electoral Commission Chair Charlotte Osei.

He questioned why critics of Osei are now backing Torkornoo's removal. Mercer suggested that this attempt seems like revenge for Osei’s ousting by Nana Akufo-Addo.

In response, President Mahama has formed a committee to investigate petitions against Torkornoo. This committee was established under Article 146(6) of the Constitution and consulted with the Council of State.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President's spokesperson, announced that the committee will look into three separate petitions seeking her removal. The committee includes:

- Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang (Chairman)
- Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu (Member)
- Daniel Yaw Domelevo (Former Auditor-General, Member)
- Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo (Ghana Armed Forces, Member)
- Professor James Sefah Dzisah (Associate Professor, University of Ghana, Member).
