Council of State to review petitions seeking Chief Justice’s removal

President John Dramani Mahama has referred three petitions about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to the Council of State. This action follows Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Presidency’s Communications Directorate confirmed this on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The petitions were submitted by various individuals and have been sent for review.

Details of the petitions are not disclosed at this time. However, this move starts a constitutional process regarding the Chief Justice's tenure.

The Council of State will advise the President on what to do next. No official action can be taken until they provide their guidance.
