Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo has called for a review of how prima facie cases are determined for removing a Chief Justice.
He is a legal practitioner and member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). During an interview on Asaase Radio, he argued that the current system lacks clear guidelines. He believes it often seems arbitrary.
Samoa Addo defended the President’s actions in this matter. He stated, “The criticism that he had no intention to give her a chance to be heard is not founded.” He explained that if the Chief Justice was given an opportunity and the President responded with copies of the petition, it shows intent to provide those documents.
He also urged Ghanaians to be patient during legal proceedings. He noted that patience is crucial for refining the judicial process. “Sometimes, let us have a bit of patience when people go to court,” he said. “We should not rush to demonize court actions. Court actions enrich our judicial process.”
Reflecting on past judicial reform efforts, he acknowledged similar concerns had been raised before. These issues sometimes required court intervention. “I have been part of this cry for reform,” he said. “Some complaints today are what we fought against in the past.” He added that confidentiality issues had to be reinforced by the courts in their case.
