Court grants 16-year-old SHS student arrested with firearm GH¢50,000 bail

A 16-year-old student from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School was arrested. He was caught with a locally made firearm without permission. The District Court in Mamponteng granted him bail of GH¢50,000.

Judge Natacha Abena Tuffour also granted bail to his stepfather, Daniel Owusu Baafi. His bail was set at GH¢30,000. Both bails require two sureties each.

The arrest happened after a routine dormitory search on May 14, 2025. School authorities found the firearm during this search. The student was then taken to the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for investigation.

During questioning, the student claimed the firearm belonged to his stepfather. Mr. Baafi was also arrested by the police. Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo shared this information on May 18.
