Court Update
The High Court in Accra has granted a one-week extension. This allows the prosecution to file disclosures and witness statements. The trial involves alleged misappropriation of GH₵49 million in a cyber-security contract.
Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai appeared before the court. He explained why they missed the May 20 deadline. A key investigator was unavailable to finalize the documents.
“Our failure to comply was not intentional,” Dr. Srem-Sai stated. He requested a one-week adjournment, as the investigator returns on Friday.
Defense Counsel Samuel Atta Akyea did not oppose this request. He noted that under Article 88(3) of the 1992 Constitution, only the Attorney General can handle criminal prosecutions. “We won’t stand in the way of the Deputy Attorney General,” he assured.
The court also discussed bail status for the third accused person. Initially, all three were thought to be on court bail. However, the DAG clarified that the third accused had Police Inquiry bail instead.
Justice Nyante confirmed this legal standing after hearing both sides. “For clarity, this Court states that the third accused is on court bail as of May 13, 2025,” he said.
The court directed the Attorney General’s office to file disclosures by June 2, 2025. The case is adjourned to June 11 for a Case Management Conference (CMC). Justice Nyante ordered that plea bargaining discussions can only occur after disclosures are served.
Background of the Case
Kwabena Adu-Boahene is at the center of this trial. He is Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). He faces charges alongside two others, including his wife.
They are accused of causing financial loss to Ghana while procuring a cyber-defense system from ISC Holdings Limited. The prosecution claims state funds were misappropriated for personal gain, including buying 37 properties in Ghana and abroad.
The court continues to hear evidence as prosecutors prepare their full case.
