An Accra High Court has granted bail to Daniel Owusu Koranteng. He was arrested for the 2019 murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
Mr. Koranteng, also known as Kwasi Amakye, is the Managing Director of ISPY Company. He faces a provisional charge of murder.
His arrest followed investigations by the FBI and Ghanaian authorities.
Court documents show phone records linked him to Suale before his assassination. Prosecutors stated Mr. Koranteng was in Suale’s neighborhood on the night he was killed.
In a previous court appearance, Mr. Koranteng admitted to photographing Suale. However, he denied selling those images to politician Kennedy Agyapong.
Mr. Agyapong publicly aired the photographs on television. He allegedly incited harm against the journalist.
The court, led by Magistrate Suzzy Nyakote, adjourned the case for further investigation.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was part of the Tiger Eye PI team led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas. He was shot and killed by unknown assailants in January 2019.
His death caused national and international outrage. Press freedom advocates and human rights organizations demanded justice for him.
