Court orders mental evaluation for extradited Togolese robbery suspect

Accra Circuit Court Orders Mental Evaluation for Businessman

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered a mental evaluation for Adina-Akapo Abdou Moudjibou. He is a businessman extradited from Togo over several robberies. Moudjibou, charged with robbery, reserved his plea.

His alleged accomplice, Marzouk Alidu, is a motor rider. Alidu faces a charge of abetment of crime.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Amoah told the court about Moudjibou's unusual behavior. This behavior began after taking his caution statement. ASP Amoah requested a psychiatric evaluation due to Moudjibou’s worsening condition.

He stated that Moudjibou sometimes defecates and consumes it. The prosecution also wanted to amend the charge sheet. It previously indicated that Moudjibou was at large despite being extradited from Togo.

The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei Tawiah, did not take pleas. It remanded Moudjibou into National Intelligence Bureau custody. Alidu was granted bail but has not yet met the conditions.

The case was adjourned to June 3, 2025. The complainant is Dr. Jemimah Asare Morjah, a medical doctor at Accra Regional Hospital. She lives in East Legon.

On April 13, 2024, around 03:00 hours, Alidu allegedly entered her bedroom through the washroom window. He was masked and armed while demanding valuables from her.

Alidu ransacked the room and stole $200,000 in cash and jewelry worth GH₵43,000 combined. He also took a registered CZ 75.5P pistol belonging to her husband, Agbenyo Clement Edem.

Alidu packed the stolen items into a backpack and warned Dr. Morjah to stay inside before fleeing. Police investigations confirmed the robbery and revealed that Moudjibou transported Alidu on a motorbike to the scene.

On September 4, 2024, police arrested Alidu at East Airport after another robbery involving Moudjibou. During interrogation, he admitted transporting Moudjibou to Dr. Morjah’s house for the robbery.

Alidu later provided police with Moudjibou’s contact details and led officers to Madina Libya Quarters; however, Moudjibou escaped there.

On September 7, 2024, Alidu guided police back to the crime scene for reconstruction purposes. He pointed out where he dropped off Moudjibou and directed officers to other locations linked to similar robberies.

An arrest warrant was issued for Moudjibou while Interpol was alerted about him as well. On January 30, 2025, Interpol Togo informed Ghana Police of his arrest in Lomé.

Moudjibou was extradited to Ghana on May 14, 2025 for prosecution purposes. That same day an identification parade occurred at CID Headquarters; however, Alidu failed to recognize him as his accomplice.

In his caution statement though, Moudjibou admitted involvement in multiple robberies with help from a motor rider and Mohammed Djando who remains at large.
Investigations are ongoing.
