Court remands fisherman caught in viral domestic violence video

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Nii Baah Afful is in custody. He is the suspect in a domestic violence case.

On March 25, 2025, the police issued a statement. They said the court remanded him for two weeks. His next court appearance is set for April 9, 2025.

Nii Baah Afful, a 29-year-old fisherman, was arrested after a viral video surfaced. The video showed him assaulting Francisca Aryee, a woman with an 8-month-old baby.

The incident took place on March 20, 2025, in Korle Gonno, Accra. It followed a misunderstanding between Nii Baah Afful and Francisca Aryee, who is 21 years old.

Investigations revealed that they lived together and had two children. On the day of the attack, Francisca tried to leave for her mother’s house. Nii Baah Afful pursued and attacked her.

The Police Intelligence Unit arrested him on March 22, around 5 PM. They ensured that Francisca received medical care and counseling.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng spoke about the case. She highlighted the police's quick response and commitment to justice.

“The swift action by the Accra Regional Police Command shows their dedication to safety,” she stated.

This situation underscores law enforcement's efforts against gender-based violence. They aim to provide support and protection for victims.
