Crime Check Foundation launches project to enhance mental health support in Ghana’s Prisons

The Crime Check Foundation (CCF), supported by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC), has launched a new project to provide psychosocial support and arts therapy to inmates in seven Ghanaian prisons, including Nsawam Medium Security and Kumasi Central.

The initiative aims to address mental health issues such as depression and anxiety among prisoners through individual and group therapy, and arts-based activities like theatre and writing.

The project, set to complete by December 2024, will also produce a documentary and promote awareness to enhance support for inmates and drive further action from government and civil society organizations.
