The Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Abdulai Jinapor, announced a criminal investigation. This is regarding the disappearance of over 1,300 Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at Tema Harbour.
He shared this information in a Facebook post on Thursday, March 26. In the post, he discussed an investigative report on the situation.
Mr. Jinapor explained that the outgoing NPP administration had reported about 3,000 ECG containers at Tema Harbour. These containers were not cleared due to the company's issues.
However, after taking office and visiting the port, he found a different number. He was told there were 2,500 containers with a demurrage cost of GHS 1,500,000,000.
This discrepancy prompted him to form an investigative committee. The committee's report confirmed that over 1,300 containers were missing. This contradicted what the previous administration had stated.
Mr. Jinapor described these findings as very concerning. He stressed the importance of accountability and quick action.
He announced that criminal investigations would start immediately. Those responsible will be prosecuted to ensure justice is served.
This revelation has raised serious concerns about transparency within ECG's procurement practices.
