Criminals don't voluntarily go to the place of their arrest - Adu Boahene's lawyers

The legal team for Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director of the NSB, denies criminal claims against him and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng.

They argue that no criminal would voluntarily show up at their arrest location.

In a statement from lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, he questioned the basis for the arrest. He stated that the circumstances do not match those of a fugitive.

“Rehearsed criminals do not voluntarily go to their arrest,” the lawyers said. They emphasized that such individuals typically flee from justice.

Mr. Boahene traveled through Kotoka International Airport, a secure area. This choice contradicts claims that he was avoiding authorities via illegal routes.

His legal team also refuted claims about his travel class. They insisted he flew business class, which can be verified.

The defense argues their clients face wrongful persecution and public humiliation. They claim this situation denies them a fair legal process.

They criticized the Attorney-General for conducting a "trial by media." They believe due process should be allowed to unfold properly.

Mr. Boahene faces accusations of embezzling state funds and laundering money through real estate investments. This includes a $7 million cyber defense system contract.

However, his lawyers assert that these arrests are politically motivated and lack due process.
