Crisis averted at TTH as doctors end strike

Calm has returned to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). This follows days of disruption caused by a doctors' strike.

The Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) withdrew their services on April 23, 2025. They protested against disrespect, poor working conditions, and logistical issues. The strike was triggered by a confrontation between a senior doctor and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

This incident occurred during the minister's visit to the hospital’s Emergency Unit on April 22, 2025. Eyewitnesses reported that Dr. Valentine Akwulpwa tried to discuss critical challenges at the hospital. The situation became confrontational, leaving many staff feeling insulted and demoralized.

As a result, the strike action paralyzed services at this major referral facility in Northern Region.
