Kenneth Kabu Kofi Kanor - DCE for Ada East
Assembly Members in Ada East and West Districts confirmed the President’s nominees for District Chief Executive (DCE). This decision brings new leadership to support development in the Ada Traditional Area.
At the Ada East District Assembly, Mr. Kenneth Kabu Kofi Kanor received unanimous approval. He secured all 28 votes in a dramatic second round of voting. In his first attempt, he did not achieve the required two-thirds majority. Supporters and traditional authorities celebrated his confirmation outside the Assembly.
Kabu Kofi Kanor’s Vision: Unity, Agriculture, Tourism
After his confirmation, Mr. Kanor thanked the Assembly Members for their trust. He emphasized the need for unity across political and community lines. “This is a collective mandate,” he stated. “We must unite to revive Ada East.”
He highlighted tourism and agriculture as key growth areas. “From the estuary to our farmlands, there are endless opportunities,” he said. His administration will focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and public-private partnerships.
Mr. Kanor invited local and international investors to consider Ada East as an investment destination. “My doors are open to genuine business that respects our culture,” he added.
Jerry John Mills Nkrumah-Tanihu - DCE for Ada West
In Ada West District, Mr. Jerry John Foreigner Mills Nkrumah achieved confirmation in the first round. He received 16 out of 22 valid votes, totaling 69 percent approval.
His swift induction into office was conducted by Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obeniwa Akweley Oklu. She praised the Assembly's democratic maturity and commitment to development.
Nkrumah’s Pledge: Infrastructure, Songor Resolution, Community Empowerment
Mr. Nkrumah outlined his agenda focused on local challenges like water supply issues and poor road networks. He also addressed healthcare and education infrastructure gaps.
He discussed ongoing controversies surrounding Songor Lagoon's land use and ownership debates. “I will engage traditional leaders and residents to bring peace,” he assured.
Traditional Leaders and Stakeholders Welcome Confirmations
The confirmations have been positively received by chiefs and civil society leaders in Ada area. Many were present at both ceremonies praising Assembly Members for prioritizing district interests over politics.
“The will of the people must prevail,” said opinion leader Numo Francis Kabu. Local youth groups and farmer associations expressed optimism about new leadership focusing on agriculture and infrastructure improvements.
Confirming DCEs is crucial for effective local government administration in Ghana. Without them, district assemblies struggle with budgetary decisions or initiating projects, leading to stagnation.
Both districts have faced challenges attracting investment over the years since being carved from Dangme East District. The new DCEs’ clear agendas offer a timely opportunity for growth improvement.
As they settle into office, residents will closely monitor their actions beyond promises. The responsibility lies with both men to turn their visions into real outcomes for their districts.
