Michael Mensah Ayenu, a well-known Ghanaian DJ, is urging fellow DJs to promote Ghanaian music globally. He founded the DJ Mensah Foundation and spoke on Channel One TV's Upside Down on June 1.
DJ Mensah highlighted the importance of DJs in promoting local music outside Ghana. He noted that there is a growing demand for Ghanaian music, especially in the UK. However, he is concerned that Ghanaian DJs are not meeting this demand.
He believes that DJs should stop comparing themselves to other countries. Instead, they should focus on building and promoting Ghana's unique musical identity.
"I urge my fellow DJs to push Ghanaian music more," he said. "People are waiting for our music, especially in the UK."
He added that while Ghana may be smaller than Nigeria, it has strong musical talent. "We know our stuff very well," he stated.
DJ Mensah encouraged his peers to concentrate on their own work rather than looking at others. "Let us push our stuff," he concluded.
