The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced a new plan. They will open six offices abroad. This aims to combat counterfeit licenses among Ghanaians living overseas.
The initiative was revealed at the launch of a new service center. This center is located in the Adentan Municipality. It operates 24 hours and handles all DVLA services.
DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey spoke at the event. He explained that the pilot phase will start in key countries. These countries have large Ghanaian communities.
Kotey said, “We are going to open six new stations outside Ghana.” He mentioned they have approached several embassies for support. The countries involved include Germany, the UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe delivered the keynote address. He urged the DVLA to improve service delivery and road safety standards. “They must ensure every vehicle on our roads is roadworthy,” he stated.
The overseas offices aim to reduce forged documentation use. They will provide legitimate licensing services to Ghanaians abroad. This will lessen administrative burdens and strengthen Ghana’s driver registry integrity.
