The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is taking action against fake Ghanaian driving licences. They plan to open six new offices outside Ghana. This announcement was made on May 7, 2025. It occurred during the opening of a new DVLA office in Adentan Municipality.
The Adentan facility will operate 24 hours a day. It will offer all DVLA services, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.
DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey spoke at the event. He said the international expansion aims to create a secure licensing system for Ghanaians abroad. This move also addresses issues with forged licences in foreign countries.
Mr. Kotey mentioned that they are working with embassies in several countries. These include Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa. These locations will be part of the pilot phase for this initiative.
The new system will help Ghanaians overseas get authentic driving licences easily. It will use approved channels to eliminate reliance on unauthorized agents.
Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister for Transport, attended as guest of honour. He praised the initiative and urged the DVLA to maintain high service standards.
“On behalf of the President, I urge the DVLA to enhance its service,” he said. “They must ensure every vehicle is roadworthy and every licence is legitimate.” The people of Ghana deserve excellence from the DVLA.
