Dafeamekpor justifies NIB’s handling of Adenta Kumi’s arrest

Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, has defended the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). This follows public backlash over the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi. Kumi is a youth activist and former parliamentary aspirant from the NPP.

The NIB raided Kumi's home for the arrest. This action has drawn criticism from NPP officials. They accuse the NIB of using excessive force and politicizing security operations.

On Channel One TV's "The Big Issue," Dafeamekpor spoke about the situation. He argued that the NIB acted within legal protocols.

He addressed concerns about officers being armed during the operation. The MP, who is also Majority Chief Whip, downplayed these concerns. He stated that armed officers are common in security operations.

Dafeamekpor explained that being invited to a police station can lead to detention. If someone declines an invitation, they may be arrested at home instead. He noted that even police demolishing property carry weapons.

In his remarks, he mentioned his own experience with armed military personnel during a demolition. Franklin Cudjoe described Adenta Kumi's arrest as 'mindless.'
