Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, has given his blessings to Dr. Yussif Sulemana. Dr. Sulemana is the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). He is the first Northerner to lead this state-owned refinery. His appointment has been celebrated in the Northern Region.
On Saturday, April 19, Dr. Sulemana visited the Gbewaa Palace. He formally announced his appointment and sought royal blessings from Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II. This visit highlighted the importance of staying connected to one’s roots.
During their meeting, Yaa Naa expressed joy over Dr. Sulemana's achievement. He urged him to justify the trust placed in him by the President. The Overlord encouraged Dr. Sulemana to excel and inspire others from the Northern Region.
He emphasized that success could pave the way for more Northerners in top positions. A local saying reflects this sentiment: “No matter how high a bird flies, it will surely return to the ground.” This was evident in Dr. Sulemana's warm reception upon returning to Dagbon.
In response, Dr. Sulemana thanked the President for this opportunity. He also expressed gratitude to Yaa Naa and the people of Dagbon for their support. He committed to serving with diligence and integrity while seeking ongoing support for his challenging role.
Dr. Sulemana said, “We are grateful to John Mahama for handing over TOR.” He felt it wise to seek blessings from Yaa Naa and appreciated receiving them wholeheartedly.
The new TOR MD also visited Kuga Naa, who echoed similar sentiments as Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II. Kuga Naa stressed that Dr. Sulemana should uphold integrity and focus on youth unemployment initiatives in the region.
Dr. Sulemana is an alumnus of Tamale Secondary School (TAMASCO), Class of 1999, which he proudly represents. Several members of his year group accompanied him during his visit.
Hajia Alhassan Faiza spoke on behalf of their delegation, reaffirming their support for Dr. Sulemana throughout his tenure.
