Damang Mining Lease: Our concern should be who the lease will be given to after Goldfields – Steve Manteaw

Dr. Steve Manteaw believes the focus should be on who gets the Damang mining lease.

In a Facebook post, he expressed his concerns about Goldfields. He stated that Goldfields has shown little interest in the Damang mines.

Manteaw finds it surprising that there is now a push to renew the lease.

He said, “I see no issue with refusing to renew the Goldfields lease. The company started reducing its investment two years ago.”

He noted that Goldfields directed all subcontractors and suppliers to demobilize.

Manteaw finds their sudden interest in the mine strange. He warns regulators to avoid repeating past mistakes.

He emphasizes that citizens should care about what happens next at Damang.

The decision must be made transparently and in the national interest.
