Data Protection Commission to launch enforcement drive against privacy violations

The Data Protection Commission of Ghana will launch an enforcement campaign soon. This campaign aims to address organizations misusing user data. It is part of a larger strategy to strengthen trust in the digital economy.

Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, Executive Director of the Commission, spoke at the MTN Business CTIO Roundtable Africa 2025. He emphasized balancing commercial interests with individual privacy rights.

"The commission will engage in sensitization and enforcement efforts soon," he said. "We want every player to help uphold our digital ecosystem's integrity." He added that their work shapes a future where technology benefits people.

The Ministry has tasked the Commission with developing Ghana's open data framework. Accessing data through APIs is crucial for those in the AI space, he noted.

The upcoming campaign will target non-compliance among public and private entities handling personal data. The Commission plans to enhance public education and engagement as part of this effort.

As data becomes vital for businesses, the DPC stresses responsible data stewardship. This aligns with the Data Protection Act of 2012 (Act 843).
