Data prices to go down in a few weeks – Sam George

Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, announced that data prices will decrease soon.

He stated that mobile data prices would be adjusted in the coming weeks. The ministry will follow a plan set by the 23-member Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee.

Speaking to the media, Sam George said, “If you want me to move from network A because you’ve made them more expensive, is network B going to give me the quality of service I want?”

He emphasized that without investment in network B, customers of network A suffer. The ministry is focusing on price, value, and quality one step at a time.

George believes we will see changes in value within weeks. He expects further adjustments in price and quality afterward.

When discussing value, he explained that getting more than 100 gigabytes for the same price represents better value.

Earlier this year, he promised Ghanaians that data prices would drop by year-end. He noted that many believe data costs can be reduced instantly with a simple decision.

George urged Ghanaians to trust the process. He established a committee tasked with creating a roadmap for lowering data prices within 14 days.

Recently, he faced pressure on social media to reduce tariffs on data purchases by over 39%.
