Data prices will drop by year-end – Sam George assures Ghanaians

Minister Samuel Nartey George has promised lower data prices in Ghana by the end of 2025.

He spoke about efforts to reduce connectivity costs. A strategic roadmap has been developed with key industry stakeholders.

The Minister instructed the Director-General of the NCA to engage with these stakeholders. They discussed immediate, medium-term, and long-term solutions.

In February 2025, a committee formed to address these issues worked for 13 days. This committee included representatives from telecom companies and the National Communications Authority (NCA). They did this without taking any taxpayer money.

This initiative aims to make digital services more affordable for Ghanaians. It aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda.

Sam George noted recent social media attention regarding internet service costs. He mentioned trending on Twitter due to public concerns over data prices.

“I have been trending not for my looks or work,” he said. “People believe data prices should drop immediately.”

Despite this pressure, he remains committed to his promise. “By the end of this year, we will see data prices drop,” he stated confidently.
