Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is disappointed with MPs. They have not accepted responsibility for a recent incident. No one has identified the MP who insulted Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
On February 4, 2025, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin spoke in Parliament. During his speech, someone from the back shouted, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” This comment was directed at Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings.
Both the majority and minority parties condemned this remark. Speaker Bagbin previously issued an ultimatum regarding the MP who made the comment. He warned that if found guilty, the MP could face suspension or expulsion.
Bagbin advised the responsible MP to confess within a week. He suggested it would be better than waiting for an investigation outcome. His directive followed petitions from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Volta Diaspora Caucus.
On May 27, Bagbin addressed Parliament about the ongoing investigation. He expressed disappointment that no one could identify the speaker of those words. He noted that even those seated nearby could not say who it was.
He questioned how none of the majority members could identify the person who spoke twice. Bagbin emphasized that these matters are serious and require action when properly reported. He stated that noise alone will not compel him to act; he expects accountability from MPs.
