The strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) continues. It is now day two, and patients are stranded at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Ridge. Nurses and midwives are withdrawing their services. They claim the government has not implemented agreed conditions of service.
Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakaria, the Medical Director, confirmed that nurses have not reported to the emergency ward. He noted it does not seem like they will return soon.
At the main emergency ambulance unit, patients are struggling and waiting for help. However, no nurses are available to assist them. Only about two nurses were seen in one of the wards but did not respond when asked if they were working.
Additionally, nurses and midwives have also stopped working at the labour ward. This information comes from officers stationed at the counter.
