H Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman of the Constitutional Amendment Committee, criticized the Majority MPs. He called their planned visit to the Ghana Embassy in Washington, DC, wasteful.
Earlier this week, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa announced significant changes. He fired an IT staff member and dissolved the IT department. An audit revealed that the department redirected Visa Applications to a private company for profit.
The embassy was temporarily shut down but reopened after one day. A new team was assigned to ensure accountability.
The Foreign Affairs Committee condemned the corrupt actions and planned a visit to the embassy. They wanted to investigate matters firsthand.
However, many view this visit as unnecessary. Reports from the minister could provide all needed information.
Prempeh expressed his concerns about the trip. He asked, “What do you hope to find there that a report can’t tell you?”
