Decongestion Day 2: AMA taskforce storms Circle Neoplan

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) taskforce continued its decongestion exercise on Wednesday, May 21. This took place at the busy Circle Neoplan Station. The effort aims to ease congestion in the capital.

This operation was Day 2 of the decongestion campaign. It focused on clearing unauthorized structures and removing street vendors. Officials also enforced sanitation and traffic regulations in the area.

The goal is to restore order and improve movement for pedestrians and vehicles. They want to ensure compliance with city planning regulations.

The campaign began on Tuesday, May 20, with Day 1 targeting areas around the AMA Head Office. These included Kinbu Road to Railways and ECG Junction to King Tackie Tawiah Statue. Opera Square to Adabraka was also targeted, as it is a hotspot for street vending and traffic congestion.

Authorities urge traders and commuters to cooperate with the taskforce. This will help avoid confrontations during operations. The AMA remains committed to making Accra cleaner, safer, and more accessible for everyone.

In related news, Mayor Michael Allotey announced that seized items would be donated to the Ghana Prisons Service. Previously, the AMA auctioned these items but will no longer do so.
