The Cape Coast High Court has ruled in favor of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. He is the Member of Parliament for Assin South. The case involved two individuals, Stephen Cobbah (known as Adepa) and Yaw Korankye (also called Ampong).
The issue arose from comments made on the “Assinman Politics Gh” WhatsApp group in March 2024. Rev. Fordjour claimed these remarks damaged his reputation significantly.
He sought a declaration that the statements were defamatory. He also requested GH¢ 1 million in damages, an injunction, an apology, and legal costs.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, the court delivered its judgment. It found that the comments were indeed defamatory.
The court awarded GH¢ 700,000 in damages against both defendants. They must pay this amount jointly and severally. Additionally, each defendant faces a cost of GH¢ 20,000.
The court issued a perpetual injunction against further defamatory statements about Rev. Fordjour. It also ordered them to retract their statements and publish an apology.
This apology must be as visible as the original comments. They will share it on the “Assinman Politics Gh” WhatsApp group and other platforms where the content spread.
This ruling emphasizes legal accountability for defamatory political discourse online.
