Last week, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah led a meeting. The focus was on pollution caused by illegal mining, known as galamsey.
The meeting discussed plans to dredge silted rivers. They also explored restoring water bodies altered by illegal miners.
Dr. Omane Boamah thanked key stakeholders for their contributions. These included DIHOC-DENZEL and various government ministries and commissions.
He noted that this collaboration is a significant step forward. It aims to reverse environmental degradation affecting the country’s water bodies.
“This intervention will restore our rivers,” he said. “It will also create jobs through land reclamation and irrigation development.”
This initiative is part of the government's commitment to protect natural resources. It aims to improve water quality and create sustainable jobs in affected communities.
