Defence Minister engages Canadian and Dutch envoys on peace and galamsey fight

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, recently met with the Ambassadors of Canada and the Netherlands. These meetings aimed to strengthen cooperation between the countries.

In a Facebook post on April 5, he called the discussions “fruitful.” Both nations shared concerns about peace, stability, and environmental issues.

A key topic was Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, known as *galamsey*. This practice harms forest reserves and water bodies in the country.

Dr. Boamah emphasized the government's commitment to winning this battle. He stated that restoring rivers is essential for reversing environmental damage.

He appreciated the support from both ambassadors. Ghana values partnerships that align with its national priorities in security and sustainable development.

“Our dialogue reaffirmed a shared vision,” he said. This vision focuses on stability and environmental preservation for future generations.

Dr. Boamah also noted the Defence Ministry's role in supporting law enforcement against illegal mining.

He assured that collaboration with international partners is vital for protecting Ghana’s natural resources and ensuring peace across the nation.
