Last week, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah met with the Ambassadors of Canada and the Netherlands. They discussed regional peace, stability, and Ghana's fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
The meetings took place at the Ministry of Defence. They aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance security partnerships. The discussions also explored joint efforts to address environmental degradation from illegal mining.
Dr. Omane Boamah found both meetings fruitful. He emphasized that international support is vital for sustaining peace and protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
He stated, “The discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and environmental protection.” He added that fighting galamsey is a top priority for Ghana.
The Ambassadors expressed their countries' ongoing interest in supporting Ghana's development agenda. They particularly focused on governance, security, and sustainable environmental practices.
