Delta State’s Shimite Bello dies in domestic violence incident

Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, has sadly passed away.

Her death is believed to be linked to domestic violence. However, full details are unclear at this time.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed the news on Facebook. He shared this somber update on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Comrade Victor Ojie, another human rights activist from Delta, also verified her passing. He warned about the dangers of staying in abusive relationships. “Marriage is not by force oh,” he wrote. “It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life.”

Reports from Hon. Oge Okonkwo indicate that Shimite’s husband has been arrested. This arrest is in connection with her death.

Shimite's aide, Tameta Sunday, expressed shock and grief over her passing. He alleged that her husband was responsible for the incident. “It’s very difficult to type RIP boss,” he wrote. “An ugly soul called pastor cut all our positive plans short.”

Shimite was a distinguished figure in her field. She served as Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre. She also implemented the Federal Government's Social Investment Programme in the state.

Additionally, she promoted African cuisine and culture through her TV documentary, African Pot.
