Democracy brought you to power, don’t undermine it – Ahiagbah to Mahama

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized President John Dramani Mahama. He claims Mahama is trying to undermine Ghana’s democratic institutions. This is evident in his pursuit to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Ahiagbah stated that this action threatens the core of democracy. He believes it cannot be justified and makes no democratic sense. He expressed these views during an appearance on The Big Issue on Channel One TV.

He emphasized that removing the Chief Justice lacks rational justification. Ahiagbah argued that Mahama's administration has performed poorly in this regard. He noted that democracy brought them into power, and undermining it cannot be excused.

His comments come amid ongoing political discussions about Mahama’s recent decision. The president referred a petition for Torkornoo's removal to the Council of State, following constitutional provisions.

In response, Chief Justice Torkornoo has requested access to the full content of the petitions against her. President Mahama has given her ten days to submit her written defense, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
