Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tettey Yohunu, has filed a defamation lawsuit against broadcaster Captain Smart and Media General Limited at the Accra High Court.
The suit alleges that during a December 27, 2024, program, Captain Smart claimed the Deputy IGP’s appointment was politically influenced and accused him of attending meetings to secure the position.
Smart also alleged that Yohunu, a supposed NPP member, lobbied NDC officials with money for the IGP role.
The Deputy IGP is seeking general damages, an injunction against further defamatory remarks, and public retractions with apologies broadcast on Onua TV and FM.
The case underscores growing scrutiny over public allegations in Ghana’s political discourse.
