Deputy Minority Leader demands clarity on privately financed presidential and vice presidential travels

Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has called for transparency. She wants clarity on how top government officials finance foreign travels. This is especially true for trips using private jets funded by undisclosed individuals.

Her comments come after Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang returned to Ghana on a privately chartered jet. This situation has raised public interest and concerns about accountability in non-state-funded travel.

At a media briefing, Ms. Appiagyei described this trend as “unfortunate.” She demanded full disclosure about who pays for such travel and what benefits they receive in return.

She stated, “We’ve seen our president and vice president travel with a private jet.” She added that if these trips are financed by private individuals, the public deserves to know the details.

“What are you giving back in return? It cannot be that free,” she questioned.

Ms. Appiagyei warned that unclear arrangements could lead to conflicts of interest. This lack of transparency undermines public trust in leadership at high government levels.

The opposition plans to push for a formal inquiry or parliamentary scrutiny soon.
