Minister for Roads and Highways Orders Investigation
Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has ordered an investigation. This follows the rapid deterioration of the newly reconstructed 66km Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta Road.
During his inspection in the Western Region, he noted significant damage. The €95 million project is showing signs of quick wear and tear.
Project Manager Joaquim Ferreira explained that heavy-duty trucks are to blame. These trucks transport manganese, bauxite, and other mining products.
The Minister visited the Apimanim axle load station unexpectedly. There, officials arrested about five trucks for overloading. Some trucks were overloaded by as much as 20 tonnes.
After this visit, Mr. Agbodza spoke to the media. He stated that overloading is damaging roads significantly. He called the axle load program "quite problematic."
To address these issues, the Ministry has formed a 5-member committee. This committee will investigate the axle load program's activities nationwide. Their goal is to improve its effectiveness and efficiency.
