Developer Kneels as Minister Orders Demolition of Property on Waterway

On May 27, 2025, a developer pleaded with the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo. His building was located on the Sakumono Ramsar site. However, his pleas were ignored as she oversaw the demolition.

The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) initiated this demolition. They targeted unauthorized structures built within waterways. This action followed recent floods that affected parts of Accra.

The operation began on May 27 and focuses on illegally constructed buildings. It includes ecologically sensitive Ramsar sites in Tema, Klagon, and Sakumo. Authorities aim to restore natural watercourses and reduce flooding in Greater Accra communities.
