Discharge your duties without fear or favour – Pres Mahama tells security chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama urged security chiefs to act professionally. He emphasized the importance of commitment and impartiality in their roles.

He spoke after Major General William Agyapong, the Chief of Defence Staff, visited him. The visit was a courtesy call as he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. President Mahama expressed his full support for their leadership.

"You have my complete backing," he said. He encouraged them to implement necessary changes with courage and professionalism.

The President stressed unity within the Armed Forces. He urged security chiefs to work together as a cohesive team under Major General Agyapong's leadership.

Additionally, he tasked them with assisting the Minister of Defence. Their goal should be to prioritize and motivate officers, soldiers, and civilian staff in defense.

"This will help the Ghana Armed Forces defend our democracy," he noted. It will also safeguard territorial integrity and strengthen internal peace.

President Mahama highlighted the Armed Forces' role in combating illegal mining. This issue poses a growing threat to national security and the environment.

"The Ghana Armed Forces must fight against illegal mining," he added. They should address other challenges threatening the country as well.

As Commander-in-Chief, President Mahama assured support for operational capabilities. He promised to prioritize their welfare and provide necessary resources for effective duty performance.
