Criminology expert Prof. Justice Tankebe has raised concerns over a sharp drop in police officer conviction rates under former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s administration.

Speaking on Citi FM, Prof. Tankebe revealed that the conviction rate for officers undergoing disciplinary proceedings fell from 17% in 2020 to just 7% in 2021 and 2022.

He called for deeper scrutiny into the reasons behind this decline, emphasizing the need for greater accountability within the police service.

With COP Yohuno now at the helm, expectations are high for reforms in disciplinary procedures and restoring public trust in law enforcement.
