Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the MP for Old Tafo, raised a question in Parliament. He asked if search warrants allow searching people's fridges.
Assafuah sought clarification from the Interior Minister. The Minister oversees the National Security Secretariat, which secured a search warrant.
He stated, “Honourable Minister, please confirm the scope of that search warrant.” He added, “Does it include searching the fridges of persons? I want to understand.”
Bernard Ahiafor, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, intervened quickly. He reminded Assafuah that he is a lawyer and should know better.
Ahiafor said, “You have seen a search warrant before. Does it specify searching a pocket?”
Assafuah responded, “Mr Speaker, this is unfair. My question is direct.” He insisted on understanding if the warrant allowed fridge searches.
Ahiafor replied again, “If this were from a non-lawyer… you have seen warrants before.” He explained that warrants do not specify what to search within a house.
“Please ask another question if you have one,” he concluded.
