Don’t fixate on an African Pope – Ghana’s Father Quaicoe says

The death of Pope Francis has sparked grief and discussions worldwide. Many are wondering who will lead the Catholic Church next.

Some hope the next pope will come from Africa. Father Michael Quaicoe believes the key factor is alignment with God’s purpose.

“If that person is from Ghana or Africa, I would be happier,” he said. He is the Catholic liaison to Ghana’s Parliament. “But that isn’t the most important factor.”

“The most important factor is God’s plan, not personal desires,” he added on the Asaase Breakfast Show.

Father Quaicoe acknowledged African candidates but stressed prayer and spiritual discernment.

“Yes, Africa has candidates, and we pray for them,” he said. “But we also pray for whoever is chosen by God for His Church.”

The Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis died from a stroke and cardiovascular arrest.

His official death certificate was released by Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, the Vatican’s chief doctor. It stated that the Pope slipped into a coma before his passing.

In recent months, he faced several health challenges, including a lung infection and diabetes. Despite these issues, Pope Francis remained active in his duties.

His last major appearance was during Easter Mass at Saint Peter’s Square, where he blessed the faithful.
