Outgoing Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to either retain Alban Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament or appoint a new speaker from within the current House.
Speaking during the first sitting after the long break, he praised Bagbin’s leadership over the past four years, noting his institutional empowerment of Parliament.
Afenyo-Markin stressed that if the NDC opts for a new speaker, they should select someone already serving in Parliament, as an outsider may not fully understand the workings of the House.
He commended Bagbin for prioritizing the welfare of members and ensuring effective leadership despite occasional disagreements.
