Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has cautioned President-elect John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against taking their overwhelming electoral victory for granted.
Domelevo urged Mahama to use the parliamentary majority to implement policies that prioritize the public good and leave a legacy of exceptional governance.
Speaking to the media, he advocated for constitutional reforms, including separating the roles of Attorney General and Minister of Justice, to enhance accountability. Domelevo argued that a cabinet minister serving as Attorney General cannot effectively hold colleagues accountable.
He also called on Mahama to act swiftly upon assuming office, particularly to recover looted public funds.
"There is no honeymoon," Domelevo stressed, urging Mahama to begin fulfilling campaign promises immediately, leveraging his experience as a former president to tackle critical national challenges.
