Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a 2024 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has urged President John Dramani Mahama to stop state security agencies from political persecution.
This call comes after a failed attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. The incident occurred at the MP's home on Wednesday.
After visiting Rev. Fordjour, Dr. Bawumia condemned the attempted arrest. He called it "unfortunate political persecution." He noted that the MP remained in high spirits despite the incident.
Dr. Bawumia encouraged party members to stay calm and law-abiding during this time. He reiterated his request for President Mahama to control his security operatives.
He stated, “The security institutions must not be used as political tools.” Dr. Bawumia warned that Ghanaians would not accept fear and arbitrary actions from state agencies.
He emphasized that Ghanaians want to avoid a return to lawlessness and intimidation. Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to democracy, rule of law, and political tolerance.
