Sam Nartey George, Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, urged Parliament's Appointments Committee not to use the vetting process to "whitewash" the image of former President Akufo-Addo.
The remark came during his vetting session, after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin presented social media posts in which George criticized Akufo-Addo’s handling of illegal mining.
George suggested that the Ghanaian public had already passed their verdict on the former president, referencing his alleged involvement in galamsey activities.
Following a directive from Committee Chairman Richard Ahiafor, George retracted the remark, acknowledging that it was unparliamentary.
He clarified his respect for the committee and complied with the chairman's request to withdraw his statement.
