Donate to support Ghana Medical Trust Fund – Mahama says as he launches “Mahama Cares”

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, called Mahama Cares. He is asking corporate Ghana for support through donations.

Mahama emphasized that businesses should give back to their clients. The fund aims to help people with chronic diseases like kidney failure, cancer, and heart conditions.

The launch took place at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on April 29, 2025. During his speech, Mahama encouraged companies to contribute as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He noted that many beneficiaries are clients or even employees of these businesses.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said this initiative was long overdue. He explained it aims to ensure fair healthcare access for those facing financial barriers. Akandoh also mentioned that a draft bill for Mahama Cares is ready for Parliament's review.

He added that changes in national health insurance funding will support the program. Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, announced Mahama's personal donation. The President donated six months of his salary to the fund.

Kwakye shared this news on social media during the launch event at UGMC.
