Double whammy as embattled Wontumi is served a writ of summons by Exim Bank

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, faces new legal issues. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Exim Bank has served him a writ of summons.

This writ follows his questioning by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on May 27, 2025. Wontumi's lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed they received the writ that afternoon.

Appiah-Kubi stated they will respond to the writ in court. He expressed confidence in mounting a defense against it. He emphasized that this is a civil matter.

Wontumi reportedly fell ill during his interrogation at EOCO in Accra. His lawyer did not disclose where he was receiving treatment. Appiah-Kubi mentioned he knows the hospital but will keep it confidential.

He added that they have not finished interrogating Wontumi yet. They plan to continue questioning if his health improves. Otherwise, he will remain hospitalized until doctors discharge him.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). EOCO operatives intercepted him as he left CID headquarters in Accra. An official statement regarding his arrest has not been released yet.

Additionally, a Third Deputy National Chairman of NPP warned against media interference. He threatened to destroy any microphone used by TV3 journalists covering Wontumi’s case at EOCO.
